Embark on a highly coveted gorilla tracking safari, trekking Uganda’s majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This adventure ranks among the most unforgettable wildlife experiences globally. Trekking durations vary from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the gorilla family’s location.
The company driver will collect you from your hotel and transport you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey takes about 8 hours, including a lunch stop. Despite its length, the drive offers a scenic route through diverse landscapes, including tropical rainforests, savannah fields, and the terraced hills of Kigezi, often referred to as the Switzerland of East Africa. You will arrive late in the evening, allowing time for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay at Buhoma community haven lodge
After an early morning breakfast, we set off with a picnic lunch for a short drive to the park offices, where we receive a briefing from local guides and trackers about the etiquette of gorilla trekking. We then hike into the forest to the location where gorillas were last spotted, beginning our tracking from there. The terrain is rough and muddy, requiring good physical fitness. Though the hike is challenging, the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery make it worthwhile. Be sure to bring plenty of water for the trek. Cameras and high-speed film are recommended. As it is a tropical rainforest, rain can occur unexpectedly, so waterproof clothing, including zip-lock bags for cameras and film, is essential. Other recommended items include sturdy hiking boots, long pants, gloves, and a raincoat. The maximum time spent with the gorillas is one hour. Return for dinner and overnight stay at Buhoma Community Haven Lodge.
After breakfast, begin the long drive back to Entebbe/Kampala, cherishing the memories of your encounters with the rare mountain gorillas. Enjoy lunch en route and make stops at the equator line and the Igongo Cultural Center. You will arrive late in the evening at Entebbe International Airport.
